Pictures from Granada July 6-8

We took a side trip between groups to explore the colonial city of Granada.  It is the traditional rival of Leon and is the main tourist destination in Nicaragua.  It's a beautiful city but a lot more "touristy" than anywhere else we have been.  It was great to have a couple of days together to recharge together.

Our breakfast each morning included freshly cut tropical fruit.

There are several beautiful old churches in Granada.  This is the church of La Merced.

And this is the Granada Cathedral in the center of town.

This is another view of the cathedral across the central square.

This is the interior of the cathedral.

One thing we did was go up to the top of the tower of the La Merced church.

Here's a selfie from our hotel room.

We also found Casa Oklahoma in Granada.

One of the days there was a celebration in honor of Maria Romero, a nun who worked to advance the rights of the poor in Nicaragua and Costa Rica who was born in Granada.  Notice the "float" with her statue on it and the baby dressed like her in the center of this picture.

We decided to try the Irish Pub in Granada.... Not extremely authentic but fun nonetheless.

While we were in the plaza, some people randomly performed the traditional play we had seen before that pokes fun at the Spanish colonial rulers.
